This coffee is a perfect representation of Tully’s roasting philosophy. Slow roasted at a low temperature allows this coffee’s complexity to be unwrapped with each sip. A malty sweetness plays with smoky elements that help develop the full bodied cup. Creamy and rich in the mouthful, the finish offers burnt cedar yet is pleasantly dry.
Rating: 85 Points (out of 100)
Smoky aroma with faint hints of aromatic wood, nut and a slight suggestion of fruit. Medium body, lean mouthfeel, with simple sweetness and roasty charred wood notes. The roastiness lingers in a mildly astringent finish.– Kenneth Davids, CoffeeReview.com, September 2009
Some professionals need to approach their jobs slowly and with a great deal of care. Like tightrope walkers. Or brain surgeons. Or tattoo artists. At Tully's®, the same holds true for creating great coffee. It takes a lot of time and patience, which is why we slow roast our coffee beans to gently coax out the complex flavors and aromas. With roots in the Pacific Northwest, where coffee is a way of life, we take our time in roasting and in training each master roaster in our artisanal approach. From the aroma to the full-bodied flavor, you can taste the time taken in every satisfying cup of Tully’s. Now we invite you to take your time discovering it.

This was my first taste of Tully's coffee, and I will be back for more. It came as a sample and we were glad we got to try it. It's a great intro to great coffee, and I will be recommending it to my friends.

Shiny dark beans make for an aromatic full flavored coffee. Pleasant, distinct, and delicious. Two thumbs up!

OK, but not what I was looking for
from Central Illinois
I'm not a coffee connoisseur and this was the first bag of "specialty coffee" I've purchased. I'm thinking that maybe I just bought the wrong one. Next bag, we'll try something else.We like flavorful coffee -- lived in Mexico for 5 years and really liked the deep dark coffee we got there. To me, this had almost no aroma, even when I first opened the bag. Not a lot of flavor (we drink ours black, and no, I'm not referring to flavored coffees, just "coffee flavor"). A bit of a bitter aftertaste.I wouldn't call it a bad cup of coffee, just not what we wanted. It would probably be a lot better with some cream and sugar in it.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Tried this coffee after [...] and on a whim tried this Itlian Roast and I and really glad that I did this coffee makes a really good cup of coffee and is so full of a rich wonderful body. This has now been added to my coffee rotation. If you enjoy a darker cup of coffee you need to give this a try.

Well I was introduced to Tully's Italian roast by my shift partner at work through a Keurig machine. I went home and that weekend bought another brand! Well that wasn't happening. I was then only able to find the K-cups and purchased a box before my trip through 8 states! I took it with me using an auto drip/brew station coffee pot and low and behold it was amazing! Even with out the Keurig machine this coffee was superb through the K-cups. I introduced my parents to it when I got to them and they bought the machine and K-cups that evening! DO NOT change a thing. This coffee will continue to sell out well into the future!!!!!
Best coffee on the planet, bar none

A friend from Seattle introduced me to Tully's about 10 years ago. Being from L.A., I had never heard of it, but my friend said it was the best in Seattle. Knowing I liked dark roast coffee, he brought some Tully's Italian Roast for an event, and I was hooked for life. It has no bitterness, bite or unpleasant aftertaste - just smooth, full, robust flavor. Best yet, my other friends all agree!!
Better than what you get in Italy

Exceptional body and flavor

I only drank and brewed french roast. The flavor of the Italian Roast is so different, just flavor, great aroma and not bitter. I prefer the full-bodied flavor.
