This rich, heavy-bodied cup with its ripe fruit and berry notes epitomizes the time-honored Italian tradition of dark-roasted coffeehouse brews. Bold yet ideally balanced, with a subtle hint of smokiness and a sweet, clean finish, our Italian Roast is a hearty and flavorful testament to the art of dark roasting. Its uniquely potent flavor profile has been masterfully crafted to occupy a special niche between the bright, bold taste of our Colombia offering and the intense, smoky-sweet essence of French Roast. About Me Everyday Drinker
Comments about Barista Prima® Italian Roast:
This is one of my regular recurring orders: it's full-bodied, strong but not bitter, and has an all-around balanced flavor. It's what I'd expect from a cafe. It tastes far better than most French Roasts, so I'm glad I tried the Italian. This particular blend has never disappointed.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Bring back the old formula
By Sad Sandra

About Me Coffee Aficionado
I was passionate about Italian Roast. It took me years to find a kcup that was close to french pressed, but I was in love with the smokey, deep finish. Then last month a new photo appeared on the package-a gondola replaced the water taxi and suddenly the label had a faint pink streak. My favorite coffee tasted burned, bitter and flat. Bring back the old formula...PLEASE!Can anyone help me figure out where to buy up the old stock?
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Favorite so far!
It's my favorite coffee so far among the k-cup options.

Changed In Spring 2014
This was my go to coffee for several years. It WAS robust and rich, yet smooth. In the spring of 2014, along with label design changes, less coffee is provided in each K-cup. It is now thin and bitter at any brewing volume. Clear signs of over extraction due to the decreased amount of coffee in the K-cup.I'll try other brands of K-cups to fit the profile I like, but it seems they have done this across the board. If I can't find something I like soon I'll have to go back to my french press. It's a shame this has been a a great company with great service. I've been a loyal customer for years. But it all comes down to the coffee in the cup, if the quality isn't there not much else can be done. I hope you turn it around before it's too late Green Mountain.

Terrible taste and smell
from Pittsburgh, PA
I opened a fresh box of the Barista Prima Italian Roast, and I noticed a strong smell that I can only liken to burnt tires while it was brewing. I added cream and sugar to my coffee as usual, and tasted it. It was bitter and the smell was overpowering. When I removed the used k-cup from the brewer, the smell from the cup was terrible, like a noxious chemical/tar kind of odor. I am a fan of Italian Roast, and I drink coffee daily, but this was the first time I bought this brand. I even had someone else smell the coffee just to check that it wasn't just my imagination, and she confirmed that it does smell really bad, like burnt rubber. I'm wondering if I just got a bad batch because the reviews on this page are all fantastic.
Best cup of coffee!
from Chicago, IL.
I have to say it's been a little while since I've had the Barista Prima coffees because they're are a little more pricey than other brands BUT, after having tried the Italian roast once again I've got to say this is by far one of the best tasting cups of coffee I had lately. If you like your coffee strong with a smokey dark richness to it then this is the one for you. I take mine with just a little half/half and a little sugar in a 12oz cup.Perfectly delicious!! I forgot just how good it really was. Definitely good to the last drop. By far one of the best Italian roast I've ever had.
The best I have found.

The best dark roast coffee I have tried!
from Atlanta, GA
I usually drink the medium roast coffees, but this one came with my new Keurig as a sample. I loved it since it was brewing, the smell was incredible and the flavor, it has a smoky flavor that is so pleasant and relaxing, you don't want the cup to end. I brewed the 12 oz and for me was very dark, yet not bitter or overwhelming. I am ordering a box and will try the french roast as well...I have find the perfect dark roast coffee for me
