This coffee is a true success story, for us, and for the people in and around Aceh Province, Sumatra.
Sumatra is one of the world's more exotic coffee destinations, peopled by folks of tremendous character... character they've demonstrated again and again by their enduring spirit and resourcefulness in the face of one calamitous natural disaster after another.
That character can be read in the coffee, as well, which is richly aromatic, lush, hefty, loamy and distinctly tropical. This cup is round and smooth in body and offers a hint of chocolate, dark fruit and citrus.
Richly sweet flavor and aroma combines earth and aromatic wood with distant suggestions of fruit and chocolate. Muted acidity and a heavy, rather rough mouthfeel that smoothes out in a sweet but simple finish.— Kenneth Davids, CoffeeReview.com, October, 2010
A great tasting cup of coffee can give you a whole new perspective. It's a moment to pause, reflect, and reprioritize. That moment is what inspires us to make coffee that benefits everyone it touches. From carefully sourcing and roasting the highest quality beans, to supporting small farms and protecting the environment, we focus on what's important.
That's why we at Green Mountain Coffee® believe a good cup of coffee can change your day... but a great cup of coffee can help change the world.
Beans from Sumatra have always been highly prized not only because of their full flavor, but also because of their distinct appearance. Sumatran coffee beans, when green, are often asymmetrical in shape and have a deep aquamarine tint. Beginning in the 18th Century when the popularity of Sumatran coffee rose significantly, the unique shape and hue helped European merchants recognize authentic Sumatran coffee beans.
However, Sumatran coffee's distinct appearance isn't the only factor contributing to the coffee's uniqueness. The unusual drying techniques employed by Sumatran coffee farmers also contribute to the coffee's distinctiveness. These techniques involve an extended period of the coffee bean's exposure to the pulp of the berry after the berry has been harvested—a process which is believed to produce deeper tones in the brewed coffee.
The KSU Arinagata coop grows 100 percent organic beans.

Comments about Green Mountain Coffee Fair Trade Organic Sumatran Reserve:
I grind my own beans and this is my first coffee review. I drink several cups most days, prefer darker roasts, and usually add half and half. I use less cream than usual with Sumatran Reserve, and experience a wonderful, uniquely stimulating mouthfeel. I discovered Sumatran Reserve over a year ago and still prefer it to all others. This is a great coffee.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

About Me Average Joe, Coffee Junkie
I was excited to try something different, so based on good reviews I ordered this in. I fresh ground it, & brewed it in "my own K-cup" - packed it to brew strong. But I was very disappointed. It brewed up weak, with very little aroma. It was mild, smooth, with balanced acidity - so someone in the market for a light brew might like it. I will agree with a couple of the other reviewers in that it did have a sweet, smooth finish. But alas, I will not order this one again.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Fantastic, 1 of the best

About Me Average Joe
It pains me to see reviewers to rate this coffee low because hands down, Sumatra coffee is listed as one of the best in the world consistently. Don't believe me, then google it. This coffee is my hands down fave with a nice earthy taste with just a hint of sweetness and spice. Any of the Sumatran coffees are best dark roasted because it best enhances their earthieness. And carefull on the sweet stuff, because this coffee has a sweet note that will enhance just a tad with creamer or sugar.
This coffee is awesome!

Solid Daily Coffee

This is just a great coffee it has such bold flavor that I normally find in a much darker roast, but it is a much lighter and very smooth. This coffee is perfect for all coffee drinkers people who perfer lighter roast and people who perfer darker roasts as my houshold does. This is currently our favorite coffee

Flavor is weak, doesn't taste enough like coffee, tastes watery (and I made it extra strong). I'll never order this again.

Like Dark Roast, Strong & Complex
About Me Socially/Environmentally Conscious
This is more like a dark roast than a medium roast. I wasn't expecting something this bold. Has a smokey flavor, but yes sweet, too. Its not what I was looking for. And with the Tiger picture, I thought this was African, but it's Indonesian. Should have read the description better. Tastes like a dark roast. Its deep and complex, not light and crisp.

of course, i like the fact that this one is organic and fair trade sourced. i was surprised to see it spec'd as a Light Roast. with this flavor, i thought it was much darker. that said, the Light Roast may be why i didn't get any burned tastes in the cups so far.a very exotic coffee.5 stars!!!!!
ONE OF MY FAVORITES!!!
