In the cloud forest of the Andes —the Ancient land of the Incas— coffee is grown much has it has been for generations... with great care, and with great respect for the land. Descendants of Inca Indian tribes, coffee growers here are proud of their traditions. Coffee is grown organically, and in the shade of a lush jungle canopy.

Flavor Chart

Our Peruvian Select is a soft-spoken, embraceable coffee. Its flavors revolve around caramel and sweet hazelnut; it’s finish is mild and sweet. It’s not a big, bold, expressive cup, but a study in balance, and understatement.

Because it’s not a demanding cup, it’s an excellent coffee to drink all day long.

"Sweeeeet!"— Patty Vincent
Rating: 88 Points (out of 100)
Lushly complex but delicate aroma, alive with floral and low-acid fruit notes: apple perhaps, even banana, leaning toward chocolate... The seductively low-acid fruit notes persist from aroma into cup, reading as red wine and chocolate. The finish is long and rich...

"I LOVE your coffees! I have looked for a coffee roaster that knows what a medium roast is (not burned!). You are the only one I have found that gets it. I especially enjoy the Peruvian Select..."
— Doug J.

Peru is a country of majesty—majestic ruins like Machu Piccu, majestic mountains like the Andes, and majestic cultures like that of the Inca. Increasingly, Peru is also a country of majestic coffee.

Coffee coming from Northern Peru tends to have a sharper quality to its flavor, whereas coffee grown in the central and southern highlands is milder, likely because of lower altitude. We purchase this coffee from La Florida cooperative in the Chanchamayo region of Peru. This particular coop has used the earnings that their fair trade coffee has generated in some very innovative ways. Recently, the cooperative started the Occupational Learning Center for Sustainable Agriculture. This is a technical school that provides education in sustainable farming practices. As a result of this program, coffee growers are better equipped to farm in an environmentally safe manner.

In general, Coffee farmers in Peru contribute significantly to the organic coffee sector. As a result, they receive better prices for their coffee and are able to use more environmentally sound farming practices. These organic farming techniques result in the protection of the immense biodiversity of the region. This coffee is a treat for the taste buds and for the land.
