What we love and celebrate about coffees from the Atitlan region is that the coffee farms still cultivate lovely old Bourbon varietals that have such bold and balanced and sweet flavors in the cup, as well as lush, tree-ripened fruit flavors of peach and apricot.

We are very pleased to introduce Heifer Hope blend, which we offer in partnership with Heifer International. This is a very special effort for us, in that one of the components of the blend is from the La Voz cooperative near lake Atitlan in Guatemala, which is one of the coffee communities served by Heifer International.

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters is a proud supporter of Heifer International and we source, roast and package this coffee in an effort to help Heifer’s fight against world hunger. By providing a sustainable source of income through livestock and training, Heifer International has given millions of families the gifts of self-reliance and hope.

"A coffee that I have included on my gift list to friends and family. Wonderfully fruity and vibrant. Some of my most favorite coffees are in this blend."

"A complex and rather exotic profile. Round, low-acid fruit in the aroma, leaning toward chocolate, with a hint of flowers. In the cup lively, wine-like acidity, with apple, floral, chocolate, nutmeg-like spice notes. Chocolate and apple resurface in the long, quietly rich finish."

We've found this great coop called Asociacion Chajulense Val Vaq Quyol, which means "only one voice", located in Chajul, El Quiche, Guatemala. We've been buying their coffee for the last two years to put in Heifer Hope Blend, two Employee Origin Trip groups have visited, and even our CEO Larry Blanford visited them in January 2008. Chajulense, as we call the coop, has about 1,600 members and they're able to sell all their coffee as certified Fair Trade. The coop has also diversified their production to include cardamom, honey, milk, and cheese, they built an inn to promote local tourism, they opened an Ixil culture center, and they fund the production of traditional womens' dresses.
