The rare and elegant black clay of these hand-crafted ceramics is found only in central Colombia, on the banks of the Magdalena River. Artisans from the village of La Chamba create their pottery from simple molds, paint the pieces with fine red clay, then burnish them with river pebbles. Beautiful and durable, they're strong enough to be used in the oven, microwave, or on the grill!
  • Hand wash recommended
  • Microwave safe
  • Lead free

This beautiful and functional pottery is handcrafted of black micaceous clay using centuries-old techniques. It is made in Colombia, along the Magdalena River, which archaeological investigations have shown to be the first place pottery was produced in the Americas. Artisans begin by shaping the clay into pots, then coat them with fine red clay and polish them with river rocks. After firing, the red-hot pieces are tumbled in a drum full of smoke to produce the finish.

This method produces uniquely beautiful pottery with a lush black color and rich sheen. These pots have the charm and rustic characteristics of other handcrafted items; these pots are safe for use in the oven, in the microwave, or on the stovetop, (electric stove tops will need a heat diffuser to keep finish from oxidizing) and enhance the presentation of all your dishes.
