Every day a group of Kenyan women go to work on a farm in the Great Rift Valley. They gather wool, dye it using natural dyes, and spin it using old bicycle wheels. A project that started with just a dozen women now employs over 500 knitters and spinners. This adorable zebra is just one of their imaginative creations. His long arms and legs are fully poseable, giving him endless ways to sit on a shelf or recline on a couch. This collectible piece of art is suitable for zebra lovers young and old, but not recommended for children under 5.

  • Approximately 31" tall.

Kenana Knitters started in 1998, the primary object being to help rural Kenyan women find some much needed form of income utilizing their spinning and knitting skills. The group buys homespun wool produced locally, then knits it into toys, bed-covers, hats and other fashion accessories. The wool comes naturally in cream, browns and greys ... Part of the charm of the items is the many different shades, the same as those of the multi-colored flocks of local sheep! Colors are obtained from dying the wool with traditional plants, propagated and grown in their garden so as not to impact adversely on the environment. Kenana Knitters provides the option for women to gain some independence and supplement the family income.
