The Santos offers a whimsical, angular design that's both durable (it features heat-resistant polycarbonate materials, not glass) and extremely easy to use. Whether or not you consider it art, you will almost certainly consider the coffee it brews some of the best you've ever tasted.

The Santos coffee maker employs simple principles to automate the critical variables in brewing coffee — time, temperature, turbulence and water-to-coffee contact. During the brew cycle, vapor pressure pushes water into the upper chamber where it roils and tumbles in full contact with your fresh coffee. Minutes later, just-brewed coffee is pulled back into the the lower chamber through a permanent micron-mesh filter (no paper!). The result: rich, aromatic coffee with the body of a coffee press and none of the sediment.

Bodum has made traditional, stove-top vacuum coffee makers since the 1950s. When they recently introduced their new automatic model it got noticed... the Specialty Coffee Association of America awarded the Bodum eSantos, "Best Brewing Equipment of the Year."

While vacuum coffee makers have been around since the mid 19th century, they fell out of favor in the 50's with the introduction of the coffee percolator, and later by auto-drip brewers. While these more modern brewers improved the convenience of brewing coffee they've never been able to match the aroma, body and flavor of coffee brewed with a vacuum pot.
